At Sanatoga Ridge Community (SRC) we are all family. The staff is working hard to help keep our residents safe, healthy, happy and entertained. The library and game rooms are open to residents to grab a book or movie from the library, or a game or puzzle from the game room. In an abundance of caution these rooms are cleaned daily.

Because they are in the high-risk sector, residents are encouraged to stay home and not to shop. They can turn in their grocery lists at the office every day. Volunteer shoppers go to the grocery stores Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. While not everything they want may be in stock, shoppers do the best they can. If they feel more comfortable doing own their shopping Redner’s in Pottstown has seniors-only hours from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.; Landis Market in Pottstown, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and Giant in Pottstown 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.

We are also happy to report our maintenance team is available and ready to work if our residents have an emergency.  Is there a leak? Has the refrigerator stopped running? All residents have to do is call the maintenance emergency number and a member of the maintenance team will get to them quickly.

As Spring bursts forth, our flowers are blooming and so are the weeds. The landscape team is back to work pulling weeds, edging and mulching beds and starting grass cutting. Our beautiful community will soon be at its tip top best.

Feeling cooped up?

Here are some ideas to keep you busy.

First and foremost, stay active. While exercise facilities and classes are canceled for the foreseeable future, you need to maintain your strength, balance and flexibility. Jennifer Tripken, ED, CHES, an Associate Director for the Center for Healthy Aging at the National Council on Aging and Colleen Hergott, PT, DPT an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Augusta in Augusta, GA, also a board-certified clinical specialist in geriatric physical therapy and an ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise physiologist, have written a blog that will help you. Visit the National Council on Aging’s website. Get up and get moving.

Is there an art project you always wanted to try but just didn’t have time? Maybe you don’t have the necessary tools? No time like the present to learn about www.Amazon.com. You can order just about anything you want or need.

How about planting an herb garden? To help ensure you do it right, check out growing an herb garden on www.YouTube.com. Yes, it is amazing what you can find on the Internet.

A Word to the Wise

Don’t forget, people over 50 are at a higher risk than the general population. To better understand why and the precautions seniors should take we’re sharing links to an AARP website page where you can find a wide array of articles on the novel coronavirus and the CDC website for lists of things you can and should do.

Stay Home. Stay Safe. Stay Active. Stay Well.
